A-lo-ha! How’re you today? I am kickin’ that cold to the curb, relaxed, and taking in the fresh air and sun.
Today is my daddy’s la hanau; his 65th to be exact! Last Sunday, our crew hosted the ohana for a special luncheon.
Have you eaten? Are you sure? Because it’s time for the seafood rollcall (via my mum’s digital)!
#1: Live Dungeness Crab:
Hubbie went out to the Mission to Sun Fat Seafood Company to buy a live crab, something my dad really wanted. He ended up buying two because they looked small.
Yes, I’m ripping off legs while the crab is still moving. The first one didn’t move much. The second one was more lively.
#2. Pan-Fried Scallops Wrapped in Prosciutto
I have never made scallops before. I wanted to try new recipes for my dad’s la hanau. So I picked up 15 sea scallops from Whole Foods. Trader Joe’s had prosciutto which I had figured was close enough to the recommended pancetta. My version was inspired by this recipe.
I also made so, how’s it taste?’s Shrimp Salad Rolls. I didn’t have my mum take a pic of it because it didn’t come out well due to my misjudgment. I had bought 20 shrimp which looked large at Whole Foods. However, after sauteing them, they looked small and not enough for seven, adult sammies. I had to throw in a can of tuna for more sustenance. I will definitely try the recipe again though and do betta!
Isn’t my dad’s cake totally awesome? Amy of Ohana Bake Shop made that. She is a mum at the school and a pastry chef who works part-time at a bakery in the city. This talented woman started her own home biz. Since 65 is a momentous occasion, I decided to order my dad a special cake and told her Hawaiian themed, pls. Beside the palm trees, and snorkeling gear, you see poke in a coconut shell and SPAM Musabi.
Inside was chocolate cake with passion fruit and chocolate mousse layered with one another. Her cake was scrumptious! Our ohana woofed it all down that afternoon.
I will leave you on a fiber-related note:
I had called my LYS on the 19th after seeing Interweave Knits’ e-letter about this coming out soon! Lucy took my number down and told me it was scheduled to come into the store July 26th. But I got the call today! So I ran out to pick up a copy.
Lucy told me there is supposed to be a special Downton Abbey issue as well some time later on. Can’t wait for that to come out! When I get the e-letter about it, I’ll post the link on KO’s FB page for you.
I’m still waiting for the latest Jane Austen Knits to come out. I thought I had read somewhere it would come out in May but no luck. Supposedly it won’t be until October.
Okie! Off to knit some more. If you wanna see a sneak peek at my design, head over the FB page here.
Aloha! Have a rainbow of a day.
